xkcd tree plot: part I

Today my colleague Jarrett Byrnes posted a question to stackoverflow.com about creating xkcd style graphs (e.g., here). Basically, the idea is that the graph should look hand drawn (as well as somewhat cartoonish). I thought I'd take a stab at using some of the proffered solutions to try and create xkcd style phylogenetic trees. I'm no R plotting expert; consequently, so far I only have the topology and branches, no labels (and really, that's the most important part). Here is an example:

OK, not so great. This is just using base graphics - maybe I will try using ggplot2, if I can figure it out, as in most of the other stackoverflow.com solutions.
